MeeGo is an open source, Linux project which brings together the Moblin project, headed up by Intel, and Maemo, by Nokia, into a single open source activity. MeeGo integrates the experience and skills of two significant development ecosystems, versed in communications and computing technologies. The MeeGo project believes these two pillars form the technical foundations for next generation platforms and usages in the mobile and device platforms space. With tablets becoming an increasingly popular format the amount of typing we will be doing on a touchscreen is only going to increase. Swype typing allows user to type fast and accurately by joining the letters on the keyboard without lifting their fingers off the keyboard. Lifting your finger off the touchscreen after each letter and trying to accurately strike the next letter can be difficult. But Swype can achieve the same thing simply by connecting the letters you want to type. And even when you don't quite connect to the letter you want to include, Swype's built-in dictionary can still work out what you're trying to say. Stephen tried the Swype Beta on the Tega v2.1 and was amazed by its accuracy and speed. Another thing he liked was the fact it can be done with one finger – which is often how we type if we are holding the tablet in the other hand. TEGA v2 is a perfect machine running Windows 7. Meanwhile we did some Windows 7 tweaking to make Windows 7 more tablet friendly. We use medium fonts, and it comes preloaded with the Thinix Touch software. With the big-button interface in great addition and makes it easier to control programs. We customized the control buttons on the right side of the device to make some tasks simple. Pressing the Home button for one second brings you to your desk and pressing it for five seconds will bring up all of your current windows. And a third feature to this button is if you hold down the Home button for ten seconds that will act at pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete. The back button is the on/off switch for the built in Wi-Fi, and if you hold it for longer it will enable/disable the SIM card mode. Karaca is sales manager for Basfoods Australia, a Melbourned-based wholesaler of Turkish and Mediterranean food. She spends her days on her feet visiting customers, checking stock levels and processing orders on the spot. Juggling a notebook computer just isn't practical while you're on the move, so she turned to Tegatech for a more portable computing solution. She found the perfect solution in the Windows 7-powered TEGA v2 tablet. "I need the power of a proper computer to access our ordering system, but using a notebook while you're on the move just isn't practical. It's awkward to get the lid open and you can't balance it on one hand or use it while you're standing or moving. I knew there had to be something better," Karaca says. Basfoods approached Tegatech for a solution to Karaca's problems. After evaluating her needs, Tegatech supplied her with a TEGA v2 tablet. The TEGA v2 sports a large 10.2-inch TFT LCD touchscreen, with a built-in HSDPA modem designed to stay online while you're out and about. It's only 16mm thick and weighs in at a mere 1kg, making it easy for Karaca to process orders on the run. Because Windows 7 has been so sucessful, Microsoft has decided that it is finally time to put their eight year old operating system to bed. _As of October 22, 2010, and per our licensing agreement with Microsoft, we will no longer be able to ship systems downgraded with Windows XP or provide Windows XP Restore Media for the purpose of downgrading._ You or your customers will still be able to downgrade to Windows XP by contacting Microsoft directly, with the following: 1) a physical copy of the Windows XP installation media, and 2) the order invoice and license number / product key code listed on the Windows 7 COA sticker (located on the back of the tablet or in the battery bay). We will of course continue to provide technical support for Windows XP at least through the warranty period of your tablet(s). Additionally, Microsoft will continue to provide extended technical support for Windows XP _at least_ through April 15, 2014.
